Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-04-20

This Privacy Policy explains what information Namesake (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects when you visit namesake.info, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to the entire namesake.info domain and all pages hosted on it.

Summary

  • We do not require an account and do not collect personally identifiable information directly.
  • Server logs hold standard request metadata briefly for security and abuse prevention.
  • We show advertising through Google AdSense, which may use cookies to personalize the ads you see.
  • You can opt out of personalized advertising at any time using the links below.
  • If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, a consent dialog will appear before any personalized advertising cookies are set.

1. Information we collect

Automatic information. Like almost every website, our hosting provider records standard request metadata — your IP address, browser user-agent, referring page, and timestamp — for security and operational purposes. These logs are retained for a short period.

Local storage. If you save names to your favorites, that list is kept only on your device using the browser’s localStorage. It is never sent to us or to any third party. Clearing your browser data removes it.

No accounts, no forms. We do not run newsletter sign-ups, comment systems, or account creation, so there is no database of user records on our side.

2. Cookies and similar technologies

Namesake itself does not set first-party tracking cookies. Cookies and similar technologies may be set by third-party services we embed, described below. A cookie is a small text file placed on your device that a service uses to remember information between page loads.

3. Advertising

We display advertising served by Google AdSense. To serve relevant ads and measure performance, Google and its ad-technology partners (“third-party vendors”) may:

  • Use cookies — including the Google DART cookie — to serve ads based on your prior visits to our website or other websites.
  • Use non-cookie identifiers (for example, mobile advertising IDs) for the same purpose.
  • Collect information about your use of our site, such as the pages you view, referring URLs, and interaction signals.

Opt out of personalized advertising. You can turn off personalized advertising by Google at Google Ads Settings. You can opt out of personalized advertising by many third-party vendors at aboutads.info or youradchoices.com.

For more information about how Google uses data when you use our site, see “How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.”

4. EEA, UK, and Swiss users (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, Google operates a consent-management dialog on our behalf (through Funding Choices / Google’s certified CMP). You will see a consent prompt on your first visit. Personalized advertising and related cookies are only used if you consent. You can change your choice at any time through the link on the dialog or by clearing cookies for our site.

Under GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction or deletion
  • Object to processing or withdraw consent
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

Contact privacy@namesake.info to exercise any of these rights.

5. California users (CCPA / CPRA)

California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. Namesake does not sell personal information for money. We use Google AdSense, which under California law may be considered “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising purposes. To opt out, use Google Ads Settings or contact us at privacy@namesake.info.

6. Analytics

We may use privacy-respecting analytics tools (for example, Plausible Analytics or Google Analytics) to understand which pages are popular and how visitors arrive at our site. These tools use aggregate data and, in the case of Plausible, set no cookies at all. If Google Analytics is used, it is configured with IP anonymization and the cookie information is governed by Google’s privacy policy.

7. Third-party services

Our site loads fonts from Google Fonts. Requests to load these fonts are sent to Google. Google’s privacy policy governs that interaction. We do not directly embed third-party content from social networks or share user data with social-media services.

8. Children

Namesake is directed at adults, typically expecting parents, and is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact privacy@namesake.info and we will delete it.

9. Data security

The site is served over HTTPS. Because we do not collect personal data directly, there is little data to protect on our side. Third-party services we embed are responsible for securing the data they collect.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site or regulations evolve. Material changes will be reflected in the “Last updated” date at the top. Continued use of the site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
