Meaning of Abraham

A prophet in the Old Testament, Qur'an and Aqdas; a Semitic patriarch son of Terah who practiced monotheism, father of the Jewish patriarch Isaac by Sarah and the Arab patriarch Ishmael by Hagar. From Abraham, from Abraham, from Ābrahām, from Ἀβρᾱᾱ́μ, from אַבְרָהָם. Thompson suggests that the meaning of the name in Genesis was forgotten due to its age and that its original meaning was "Father is exalted." Glossed as + in Genesis 17:4–5; or from אַבְרָם.

— Qur’an, An-Nisa 4:125

"And [mention] when Ibrahim was raising the foundations of the House and [with him] Ismail, [saying], ‘Our Lord, accept [this] from us.’"

— Qur’an, Al-Baqarah 2:127

Ibrahim is mentioned by name 69 times in the Qur’an — second only to Musa among the prophets. Muslims invoke blessings on him in every daily prayer.
